The summer camp will run from July 9, through July 13, 2018 and July 16 through July 20, 2018 from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m.
Shoot for the Stars, Inc. is proud to present the 2018 Back to Basics Boys & Girls Summer Basketball Camp at School of the Future in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania. The summer camp will be held in two one-week sessions designed to engage inner-city youth (ages of 8-18) by teaching, mentoring and coaching students to not only become solid athletes but to help them develop into successful, productive human beings.
On behalf of Shoot for the Stars, I would like to invite you to become a program sponsor and help a deserving student obtain valuable basketball instruction and mentorship that may otherwise be inaccessible to them due to their socioeconomic status.
We are on a mission to save our children and have set a goal to raise $12,000 to support 50 children in need of a high quality, transformational experience that provides them with healthy alternatives to criminal activity, violence or drug, and alcohol abuse.
Shoot for the Stars has been educating male and female students since 1980, and has been a federally recognized 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization since 2011. The coaching staff consists of retired educators, coaches and professional athletes, committed to using athletics as a socialization mechanism. Our staff includes: NBA Hall of Famer Wali Jones and Ken Hamilton, who retired as the all-time wins leader at Benjamin Franklin High School basketball coach.
What makes “Shoot for the Stars” different are the intangible benefits our youngsters realize. However, it’s not just about basketball. We go beyond helping our charges become better basketball players – we encourage them to become better human beings. We place an emphasis on human development training, which includes peer leadership, study skills, time management and critical thinking skills.
In conjunction with the basketball training, campers will also be exposed to an effective human development program that includes: decision making, refusal skills, teaming, and an academic action plan as part of a research-based program curriculum that has worked for three NBA players thus far!
